Term Two
Our first term two project was very interesting. We had construct grow cups, in which we would grow tomato plants. After researcing different experiments where th project was done, i concluded that a large, open cup with lots of loose sawdust would be best. I used pink foam cut into a ice-cream cone shpae, then covered the bottom with mesh. I placed in its spot then filled it with sawdust and tomato seeds, followed by more sawdust. the result s of the project were stifying. Although I didn't grow any tomatoes, My plant grew to about eighteen inches in height. Some feedback I recieved told me to attach my plant to a dowel to stabalize it. From this expeirment I learn a lot in botany. If I were to do it again I would try and add a reflective surface to utilize as much sunlight as possible.
Our next term two project consisted of making a coaster with or initials in it. I started by sketching a unique almagamation of my initials, getting it approved, and cutting it out on the bandsaw. Next, I cut out a one-inch section of PVC pipe. After that, I put my initials in the pipe and covered it with concrete. Finally, I lazed the top and protectect the bottom with roofing. I received great feedbak from Mr. Ramos, as shown in my grade. With this project, I learned how to mix and pour concrete, which will not only help me in later projects, but also later in life. If I were to redesign my coaster, the interior design would be painted, to add more of a flair.
The following project was to design, draw, and present a theoretical green house at the north pole. It would be dark half of the time and light the other half, so we had to plan accordingly. My final design was a series of ledges to maximize the amount of plants, while reusing as much water as possible. Mr. Ramos gave me advice to insulate the walls to keep heat in. From this project we learned how to save space and proper planning. If I were to do the project again, I would find a way to generate power at the north pole to keep lights running nonstop.
Today, many phones look so similar. Our next task was to break the monotomy by redesigning the smart phone, making it stylish and easier to use. My first step was to try to make a unique shape. My mind immediately went to the PVC pipe we had stored beneath the bandsaws. After cutting out a one-inch piece, I cut out a similarly sized piece of wood to fit within the pipe. I secured it with nails, and installed a small, wooden button in the center. I drenched the entire thing in green paint, thus completing my project. Many reviewers suggested I add more buttons, so I attached small pieces of sheet metal to represent buttons. If I were to re-do this project, the only thing I would change would be to attach a piece of plastic to act as a better screen.
